Almost as Wonderful as a New Grandbaby

After 49 long and agonizing days of waiting, I finally got my new aspheric lenses. Tonight, I took them for a test drive to Wal-Mart with Megan riding shotgun in case I got into trouble.

The first sign that life was different was I could walk down my front porch steps like a normal person, instead of stopping on each step to look to see where the next one was, like a 90 year old woman. And this was with a half-moon and only a handful of stars.

Then I backed out of the driveway. I could see gobs of distance between me and the neighbor's car parked on the other side of the street, instead of feeling like I had to make a tight turn to miss it. And on the drive to Wal-Mart, I saw everything--lines on the road, edges of the road, joggers, fence posts, a couple of teen hooligans (up to no good I'm sure), and a stray cat with a death wish that darted out in front of me. I even saw this really faded turn arrow painted on the road that Megan said was HARD TO SEE.

I'm seeing in 3-D at night again, instead of the 2 1/2-D prison I've been living in for the past four years. And color. Color at night is amazing! It's so vibrant against the darkness. Did you know that Stop signs are breathtakingly beautiful?

And Megan said I drove normally. I didn't scare her (or me) at all.

Ah, freedom.

I still don't like driving at night because of, you know, all the vampires and werewolves lurking about in the dark. But tomorrow I have a UB workshop at 7:00 p.m. in Provo and I'm driving myself.

BECAUSE I CAN!

The Coolest Way to Be Asked to the Prom

I don't know what it's like in other states, but here in Utah the teenagers go to creative extremes to ask each other to a dance. Usually this involves making an exploding confetti mess in someone's room or following a piece of yarn for half a mile in the middle of the night.

And then there is the reply. Creativity run amok.

Because my children are the most beautiful, friendly and well-liked children in the world, they have had many, many opportunities to ask and answer. And I have had many, many days when I went to bed with a headache from the eye rolling.

This year, however, I was impressed. Megan had the flu and missed a couple of days of school. When she went back, she had to take a make-up test. The first few questions asked for the usual regurgitation of facts--then question 5: Will you go to the prom with Patrick?

Clever.

Baby Model

Doesn't he look like he could be on the cover of Baby GQ or something?

Yes, I'm Going to Be THAT Kind of Grandma!

Carter Stephen Gordon
Born Tuesday, April 17th at 12:10 a.m.
8 lbs, 4 ozs; 20" long

Yesterday, I went over to their house to take MY turn at holding him for a long, long time.

My daughter had a little notebook where she listed the times of his feedings, how much he drank, when he pooped and what it looked like. She had to tell me in minute detail about each poop he'd had since the last time I saw him.

And the funny thing? I WANTED to hear every minute detail about his poops!

We are all so in love with this baby. Grandpa Jim calls or texts me several times a day for baby updates. Even Megan who is at Disneyland for Spring Break calls daily for updates and cannot wait to get home to see this little bundle of joy.

The longer I live, the more certain I am that every baby is a miracle.

Easter Morning

Because he lives I can bear whatever burden may be mine
I am encircled in the arms of love divine because he lives

Because he lives he will banish every shadow of my pain
Every sorrow will be swallowed up in him

For in his hand is healing for the weary soul

This I know because he lives

Because he lives my heart is filled with peace amid a world of fear
And through the blindness of the night, in him I rest secure

Because he lives

Because he lives there is no task so great that I cannot endure
I bear no heartache that his tender mercy cannot cure
Because he lives

I Won!

I won the Fun Frog Pack over on Six LDS Writers! Not exactly sure what a Fun Frog Pack is (or if it even exists outside of the blogosphere) but I'm proud of it anyway.

Kerry Blair, whom I've never met and did not bribe, said a very nice thing about my silly frog story.
