Can't Wait to Read This Book!

My good friend, Tristi Pinkston, is coming out with another book in the Ida Mae mystery series soon. I love this series. It's laugh-out-loud funny. (My Mom loves it too and can't wait for this book to be out as an ebook!)

You can read my review of Secret Sisters (book 1) HERE and my review of Dearly Departed (book 2) HERE! Look for my review of her new book, Hang 'Em High, toward the end of September.

I recommend these books to anyone who like cozy mysteries and I am more than happy to help Tristi spread the word...

Author Tristi Pinkston is excited to announce the release of the third novel in her Secret Sisters Mysteries series.

Titled Hang ‘em High, this novel takes place on a dude ranch in Montana. When Ida Mae’s son invites her to come for a visit, of course she brings Arlette and Tansy along with her. They are expecting to spend the week looking at horses, avoiding the cows, and making amends in Ida Mae’s relationship with her son. What they don’t expect is to be stuck on the ranch in the middle of a blizzard and to be thrust headlong into the middle of a mystery.

***

Help Tristi celebrate her new novel in two ways. First, come participate in the two-week-long blog contest, where you can win a book nearly every single day! All the details are up on Tristi’s blog.

12x12 Paper Storage Shelves

Finally got the vertical storage units built and hung in my Woman Cave!

It really wasn't too hard to do, once I decided what I wanted and how to customize it for my own needs.

I knew I wanted 12x12 paper storage and after spending a lot of time on the Internet (I love Google!), I found some I thought looked nice and would be easy enough for me to do by myself.

This is their photo.

<- - - - - - - - - - -

Here is the link to instructions for making the shelves.

Here's a link to a YouTube video that doesn't show much of how to do it, but does show it finished and she talks about it.

First I started with several sets of these wire cubes. They were around $20 a set. I got four sets because I wasn't 100% sure how many I'd need and wanted to be sure I had enough.

Note #1: I couldn't find the wire cubes at the Dollar Store (like the woman who made the video suggested). I ended up finding them at Target. Walmart sometimes has them, too.

Just like she says to do, I built the wire crates and added extra shelving, using the zip ties to hold them in place. Then I hung the cubes on the pegboards.

Note #2: It would have been easier if I had attached the vertical storage cubes to the pegboard before hanging it. Then I could have just run longer zip ties through the holes of the pegboard and secured them that way. But I didn't do that. Ended up having to buy metal pegboard hooks to hold up the cubes.

These vertical storage cubes hold all my scrapbooking paper—which went through a bit of a purge first. I only kept the colors and patterns I really liked.

These vertical storage cubes will hold other craft supplies. Right now, yarn. I'm re-learning how to knit and having fun making things that may or may not be done in time for Christmas gift-giving.

And notice how I've also hung my fabric scissors and some spools of thread on the pegboard? Pegboard is awesome!

I still have leftover wire squares, so I may end up making another set of cubes to use in the gift wrap zone of my Woman Cave. Or not. Haven't decided yet.

But this really was a very fun and easy project. Very versatile. And not too hard on the budget either.

Deathly Hallows Part 2

It. Was. Awesome!

Yes, it was.

No arguing.

Just go see it.

And if you saw it and didn't like it, well, then...

just... well...

Whatever!

(Detailed review coming in just a minute.)

Okay, so me and my peeps went to the movie this past Saturday. And because we are TOTALLY COOL, we dressed up!

This is my friend, Julie Ann, who is a Hogwarts student.
And me, a Hogwarts teacher.

And this is Anna, on the left, a generic witch.
And her daughter, Hayley, who is Tonks.
(Of course she is! Look at her hair!)

And here we have another Hayley,
who is another TONKS!
(How cute is that!!!)

And here are Suan, Cassidy and April—three Muggles.
(Seriously? Muggles??? That's the best you could do?)

Everyone in our group got a Treat Bag
(thanks, Suan, for all the help on that)

Treat Bags included:
  • Ton-Tongue Toffee

  • Fizzing Whizbees

  • Droobles Best Blowing Gum

  • Marvolo Gaunt's Ring

  • Magical Pencil

  • CD with Harry Potter Bingo Games & Word Puzzles

  • Hand Sanitizer (you have to see the movie)

  • DIY Goblet of Fire

  • and A REAL WAND!!!

And now for my movie review...

Sorry, there will be spoilers.

This is the bad guy.
He is up to no good.

These are the bad guy's friends.
They aren't very nice either.

These are the good guys....
Oh, wait. Wrong movie.

Here they are.

And here they are again.

The good guys have friends too.
They don't look like much, do they?

The good guys make the bad guy so mad...
he tries to pinch Harry's face off!

But Harry fights back.
"Take that you pasty white man with no nose!"

Fighting bad guys is really dirty, sweaty business.

With a name like Deathly Hallows,
you just know someone is going to die.

They do. Several someones, in fact.

Yes, I know Dobby died in the last movie,
but I'm still very sad about that.

This one was very sad too.

Lots of people cried when Snape died.

But some people gave him a nice burial and a tombstone.

A lot of people survived
so we have to be happy about that.

And some people were totally awesome!
Neville! You ROCK!!!

And then after everyone that didn't die
had a chance to get a shower,
they all grow up, get married, have cute kids and
live happily ever after.

The End.

Oh, and P.S.: The HP Bingo and Puzzle book that were offered as prizes are now for sale HERE.

The Most Heavenly Healthy Snack Recipe

I just invented the most heavenly snack recipe!

I started a weight loss challenge on Friday and hit withdrawal and cravings BIG TIME on Saturday. I wanted yummy. I wanted chewy. I wanted CHOCOLATE!

I complained to my coaches/sponsors (yes, I have two—my daughter and my sister; lucky me!). They were not much help with their, "Just dip a banana or apple slices in peanut butter for a yummy, nutritious snack..."

Yuk!

I'm not a big peanut butter lover. In fact, in my entire life, I've never liked peanut butter. I like the flavor just fine but not the texture. I really don't like the way it sticks in my mouth.

If I've hated peanut butter my entire life, am I really going to like it now???

But. I decided to give it a try, and GUESS WHAT?!?

I still don't like it.

But it wasn't quite as hideous as I remembered it. So I forced down the snack and it filled me up but I wasn't really happy about it.

And it did nothing for the CHOCOLATE CRAVING.

So when the cravings hit again yesterday afternoon, I decided to get creative. I made the most awesome low-cal, high protein, peanut butter and chocolate fruit dip that is TO DIE FOR!

Seriously.

I call it...

The TOTALLY HEAVENLY TASTING CHOCOLATE NUT SPREAD THAT YOU CAN EAT WITHOUT HAVING TO REPENT LATER! Fruit Dip

1 TBS Natural Creamy Peanut Butter (like Adam's) = 105 cal

1 TBS Natural Almond Butter = 90 cal

1 TBS Pure Cocoa = 10 cal

1 tsp pure vanilla = 12 cal

3 – 4 TBS Almond Milk = 10 cal

Mash it all up with a fork to make a thick, but not sticky spread to go on bananas, apples, cherries, strawberries, whatever. Or even on rice cakes.

Makes approx 5 TBS = 227 cal

1 serving = 1 TBS = 45 cal

with banana (105 + 45) = 150 cal

apple (80 + 45) = 125 cal

And if you want it smoother or thinner so you can drizzle it (like this picture on the right), add more almond milk and blend it in a blender until its the consistency you prefer.

Variations:
  • Use all peanut butter

  • Use all almond butter

  • Use hazelnut butter (Nutella, move over!)

Oh, and you're welcome. ;)

Harry Potter Party Deadline Extended

I've received several requests today to please extend the deadline on Inksplasher’s Totally Awesome Harry Potter Blog Party.

Excuses ranged everywhere from "I can only get on the Internet after work and I'm too tired" to "My Internet has been down all day" to "I can't get to a computer because I'm waiting in line at the HP movie and I don't have one of those fancy Internet phones."

There was much begging and pleading and groveling, so what can I say? I borrowed Hermione's Time Turner and...
